Dark Peak Mountain Biking

Day1: Arrive Hathersage

Arrive at your accommodation in the attractive village of Hathersage.

Day 2: Hathersage - Castleton (22 or 32 miles)

Leaving Hathersage you will join the bridleway through Hurst Clough to Bamford & onto Ladybower Reservoir. Here you will rise to Crookhill & pass Alport Castles high above the Derwent Valley. Fine views open up as you continue along the singletrack trail above the woodland. Continuing along the banks of the Derwent & Ladybower reservoirs you will then pass through coniferous woodland to reveal the incredible vista of the Edale & Hope Valleys below. A fine sweeping single track trail takes you into the village of Hope, just a couple of miles away from your resting place at Castleton. Nestled beneath the ruins of the Norman Peveril castle and with a number of traditional purveyors of ale, Castleton makes an ideal stop for the night.

Day 3: Castleton - Hayfield (17 or 25 miles)

Traversing the base of Shivering Mountain (Mam Tor) takes you up above Winnats Pass to join the Limestone Way through part of the Derbyshire Dales Nature Reserve to Peak Forest. Joining the Pennine Bridleway Northwards through Perry Dale takes you to Rushup Edge & Roych Clough before the base of mount Famine. Yet another fine sweeping singletrack trail takes you down into the picturesque village of Hayfield. Lying beneath the Peak Districts highest point at Kinder Scout, Hayfield also has 6 country pubs & a couple of restaurants to choose from.

Optional detours to Donkey sanctuary & Tideswell.

Day 4: Hayfield - Hathersage (16 or 24 miles)

Your final day in the saddle takes you past Kinder Reservoir & Oken Clough to the Saxon Edale Cross. This provides a great spot to take in the views before the challenging descent down Jacobs Ladder to Upper Booth. An easy ride along the Vale of Edale takes in the villages & hamlets of Barber Booth, Edale, Nether Booth & Hope. The hidden gems of Bradwell, Great Hucklow & Abney are all pretty villages that lead to Abney Moor & Shatton Moor descending along singletrack trails past Offerton Hall, Highlow Hall & Leadmill before arriving at Hathersage.

Optional detours to Bretton, Foolow or Eyam.
