Cycling Holiday in the Peak District

3 days / 3 nights With Lge Tfr £230 or Without £185 Grading: Hard

Day 1 Arrive Glossop cycling holiday peak district
Day 2 Glossop - Castleton
Day 3 Castleton - Holmfirth
Day 4 Holmfirth - Glossop

Day 1:
Arrive Glossop at your accommodation for the night.
Day 2:
On leaving Glossop you take to quiet country lanes before joining the Sett Valley trail to Hayfield. The Pennine Bridleway out of Hayfield traverses the spectacular countryside beneath the lofty heights of Kinder Scout. This superb trail takes you to Rushup Edge & onto Mam Tor, which has commanding views over the Hope & Edale valleys below. A ride down the breathtaking Winnats Pass & cruise into Castleton, looking out to Mam Tor or the Shivering Mountain as it is often called, provides a truly memorable end to your 1st days cycling (23 miles).
Day 3:
Out of Castleton you will pass by Ladybower Reservoir which was the scene for the classic ‘Dambusters’ film. You have the choice of two routes onto Holmfirth depending on how energetic you are feeling. The longer route will take you past Stannage Edge, popular with climbers & walkers & onto Hooks Car whereas the shorter route will take you over Strines Moor. Both routes will take you along the much less demanding Pennine Bridleway to Penistone before the final push over to ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ country Holmfirth (34 / 43 miles).
Day 4:
From Holmfirth you will pass by Dunford Bridge & travel via Salters Brook before joining the Longdendale Trail at the Woodhead tunnel. Once part of the Manchester to Sheffield railway this traffic free & welcomingly flat trail takes you past 5 reservoirs with fantastic views of Shining Clough Moss & Bleaklow. You will pass the crossroads with the Pennine Way before you return to your starting point at Glossop (18miles).

This tour is best done on a mountain bike as there are some off road bridleways.

Please note that this tour is graded as hard. You will see some amazing scenery but you must be prepared to cycle up a few hills as you are effectively crossing the Pennines & back!
